Inspector Mayes: Why are you vegetarian?
Collin: I don't like eating animals because they are living things so they have emotions and feel pain. Also I do it for environmental reasons.
Inspector Mayes: How do you get protein?
Collin: From nuts, tofu, beans, pulses, rice + wheat products, peas and meat alternatives.
Inspector Mayes: Why don't you eat dairy and eggs?
Collin: Because the animals that produce it suffer in doing so. When my friend Freya was 2 1/2 she realised that cows were not with their calves. This is because calves are taken away from their mums only a few days after they are born!
Most egg-laying chickens are kept in a space (not really a space!) where they are stuck against the other chickens. Boy chicks are killed when they are born as they can't lay eggs! Also the egg laying hens are killed when they are 1 1/2 yrs old when they could live till they are 7.

I was born vegan and I have stayed vegan because I think it's the right thing to do.

I went veggie for a dare, then stayed veggie because I found out what a good idea it was, for the same reasons as you. Also cow's cheese gave me headaches so it was easy to change that for healthier food!
